Banding and Valuation
Most homes are subject to Council Tax.

There is one bill per home, whether it is a house, bungalow, flat, maisonette, mobile home or houseboat, and whether it is owned or rented.

Each home is allocated to one of eight bands, according to its estimated value at 1 April 1991.

The following list shows Valuation band, the range of the property values, and the proportion of Band D Tax payable.

A (Up to and including £40,000) 6/9ths of Band D tax.

B (£40,001 to £52,000) 7/9ths of Band D tax.

C (£52,001 to £68,000) 8/9ths of Band D tax.

D (£68,001 to £88,000)

E (£88,001 to £120,000) 11/9ths of Band D tax.

F (£120,001 to £160,000) 13/9ths of Band D tax.

G (£160,001 to £320,000) 15/9ths of Band D tax.

H (More than £320,000) 2 × Band D tax.

Your Council Tax bill will show what band your home is in.

Appeals on valuation

The Valuation Office decides the banding for your property. This is a government department, totally separate from the Council.

If you believe that your property's banding is incorrect, you should first write or contact:

The Listing Officer, The Valuation Office,
6th Floor, St Clare House,Princes Street,
Ipswich, IP1 1LR.

Tel: 01473 587800

If you are unable to agree any change with the listing officer, there is an appeal procedure to resolve your dispute. The listing officer will explain this option. Continue to pay your bill in the meantime, and if your appeal is successful, any overpaid tax will be refunded to you.
