Help with Rent and Deposits
Help to Pay Your Rent

If you are not working or you are on a low wage you may be able to apply for Housing Benefit. Once you have found a property you wish to rent you can apply for a Pre-Tenancy Determination. This is a rental valuation by the independent Rent Officer Service which gives you the rent figure which will be used by the Housing Benefit Officer to work out your Housing Benefit. The landlord has to agree to a Pre-Tenancy Determination being carried out.

Please contact the Housing Benefits department for more information. Telephone: 0845 606 6067

Help With Your Deposit

The council operates a Rent Deposit Guarantee Scheme. If your landlord will accept this scheme it could help you to gain access to suitable and affordable accommodation in the Private Sector.
