Joint Housing Board
JHBlogos

Tenants and leaseholders in Babergh and Mid Suffolk have been invited to stand for election to become part of a new Joint Housing Board, which will make decisions about issues affecting all tenants across the two districts.

Following a campaign to ask for nominations to the Board, the Councils will ask all tenants to vote for their preferred candidate, who will represent the area in which they live.

What is the Joint Housing Board?

Plans to form a Joint Housing Board were approved by Members at both Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils last year.  This is believed to be the first Joint Housing Board in the country where tenants and Members from two districts will work together, with equal voting rights, to decide on strategy and develop plans and policy.

The Joint Housing Board, which will be made up of 12 Members (six councillors and six tenants), will be established early this year.  It will cover six wards across the two districts. You can view the ward areas, by clicking on the Ward Map (PDF 514Kb).

Each tenant member will have to follow rules for the Conduct of an Election of Tenant Representatives (PDF, 88Kb) and also have a  Job Description (PDF, 76Kb)  for their role.

A Frequently Asked Questions (PDF, 84Kb) document has been put together about some of the questions you may have about the Board and your role as Member.

Further information about Babergh and Mid Suffolk's housing service is available in the Housing information note (PDF, 24Kb)

What is happening to elect tenants to the Board?

A timeline which sets out the whole process for these elections is available: Election Timetable (PDF, 26Kb)  This sets out the whole process from the nominations, to the election of a candidate.
