What Is Home Repair Assistance?

Home Repair Assistance grants are available for essential repair or replacement works and to make a property weathertight.
Top up grants to Warmfront assistance for energy measures and heating provision/ repairs may also be considered.

Grant may be available in some circumstances to provide fast track adaptations to enable a disabled person to return home following discharge from hospital and to provide fast track adaptations to meet the needs of a disabled person who is terminally ill.

These grants are discretionary and availability is subject to budget restrictions.

Who Can Apply?
  • Homeowners or tenants with repairing obligations
Any application is subject to a means test.

What type of work can I get help with?

Assistance can be considered for
  • Roof repairs
  • Repairs to guttering and downpipes
  • Repairs to sanitary facilities
  • Repairs and replacements of windows and doors
  • Minor alterations to enable an elderly, disabled or infirm person to be accommodated as a permanent resident
How Much Grant Is Available?

The maximum grant is £3000 in a 3 year period (subject to a means test). If more extensive and costly works are required it may be more appropriate to apply for a Renovation Grant.

Who Can Do The Work?

You may choose the contractor who carries out the work and you will need to submit at least one quotation at the time of your application. You or a member of your family may carry out the work but you can only claim for the cost of materials. Hanover at Home improvement agency may be able to assist you and their fees will be considered as grant eligible.

When can the work start?


You should not start work until your grant has been approved. Assistance will not be available for any works that have commenced irrespective of whether the work is eligible for grant aid.
