Houses in Multiple Occupation Grants-Landlords
Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) grants from Mid Suffolk District Council provide financial assistance to Landlords towards carrying out improvements and repairs to existing HMOs to make them safe and suitable for the number of occupants.

These grants are discretionary and the availability is subject to budget restrictions
.

The HMO must have been built or provided by conversion more than 10 years ago. Any self contained flats are excluded.

Grants may be available for:

  • adequate provision of sanitary accommodation, washing facilities or kitchens for the number of occupants
  • providing an adequate means of escape from fire and fire alarm or sprinkler systems as determined in consultation with the Fire Safety Officer
  • remedying category 1 hazards as assessed under the Housing , health and Safety rating system essential repair
The grant is paid in return for a commitment by the applicant to make the property available for letting for a 5 year period.

You should not start work until your grant has been approved. Grant aid will not be made available for any works that have commenced irrespective of whether the work is eligible for grant.
