This page explains how your
community alarm works and how to use it. Keep it in a safe place so
that you or your relatives can refer to it if needed.
When should I use my alarm?
You can use your alarm at any time of the day or night if you have
an accident or emergency, such as a fall. All you need to do is
press either the red button on the alarm unit or the button on your
pendant.
What happens when I press the button?
The alarm will automatically dial Assist and Assure, which could
take up to a minute. An operator will then be able to talk to you
and hear you even if you cannot reach the phone. The pendant should
activate the alarm from anywhere in your house or garden.
What information does Assist and Assure hold about
me?
When you press your button Assist and Assure will be
able to identify who is calling. They will have the information you
have provided about yourself: name, address, date of birth and
brief medical details. They will also have the details of
neighbours or family members who have agreed to be contacts in the
case of emergency and the name of your doctor.
What will Assist and Assure do if I need
help?
If you need assistance Assist and Assure will telephone one of your
contacts and ask them if they can call on you. It is a good idea if
you provide them with a key to your home in case you are unable to
get to the door. If Assist and Assure cannot reach any of your
contacts and you have an emergency, the relevant emergency services
will be called.
Does it matter if I press the button by
mistake?
Don't worry if you accidently press the button. Just
tell the Assist and Assure operator that you are fine and do not
need help.
How often should I test my alarm?
About once a month. If you haven't used your alarm in the last
month please test it to make sure it is in working order. Similarly
if you go away for more than a few days let Assist and Assure know
when you leave and test the alarm when you get back.
What should I do if my pendant breaks or the alarm is not
working?
Press the button to test the alarm. If Assist and
Assure answers tell them what the problem is. If there is no
response, telephone (01362) 696175 to report the fault at any time
of the day or night.
What does it mean if the alarm is making an unusual noise
and there is no voice contact with Assist and Assure?
This may mean that your phone line is not working.
You will need to ask a friend or neighbour to telephone (01362)
696175 so that you can be told what to do.
Always keep your pendant on or near you and do not
be afraid to use it if you need help.
