Your Community, Your Say

With only 11 days left for people to have their say on plans for the future development of Stowmarket and its surrounding villages, Mid Suffolk District Council is urging people to come forward with their thoughts and comments or either support, objection or general observation on the Council's Stowmarket Area Action Plan.

The Stowmarket Area Action Plan, which is being consulted on until 5.00pm on Friday 30 January, will establish planning policies and sites that will guide development in Stowmarket and its immediately surrounding villages.

The Plan builds on the work and public consultations already carried out for the Stowmarket Masterplan and it will plan for the future development of the Stowmarket area over the next 15 years or so. This will include:

  • the scale and location of new shopping facilities;
  • need for additional housing and employment in the plan area;
  • providing adequate services to cater for future growth;
  • improving transport to and around Stowmarket;
  • enhancing and protecting the environment, including the river valleys.

The first stage of consultation is on the Issues and Options policy document (December 2008). This will look at establishing planning policies. Options for specific sites for development will be considered in the next stage of public consultation, planned for spring 2009.

Councillor Lesley Mayes, Portfolio Holder for Stowmarket and Rural Regeneration said: “This document will influence many of us, especially those who live, work, study or visit Mid Suffolk’s principal town.  Your input is therefore vital and all representations of objection or support will be carefully considered. Please take the time to read the document and submit your views.”

Copies of the document, summary leaflets and response forms are available from the council’s website: www.midsuffolk.gov.uk. Comments should be made via the council’s designated consultation website: http://consultation.limehouse.co.uk/midsuffolk  Alternative methods are also available.
