Mid Suffolk councillors approve 2.5% rise in Council Tax

Residents in Mid Suffolk will see an increase of 2.5% on their Council Tax for 2010/11, following the approval of the budget at the Full Council meeting last night (Thursday 25 February 2009).

Cllr Derrick Haley, portfolio holder for finance said: “Setting the budget for next year has been a real challenge. We have worked hard to find a number of savings within the authority so we could deliver a balanced budget. This has been achieved through a combination of efficiency savings, generating more income for the authority and reducing activity in some of our areas.

It has been difficult but we want to continue to provide high-quality services, at low costs to the residents of Mid Suffolk.”

78% of Mid Suffolk residents will pay Council Tax at the headline ‘Band D’ level and below, for which the annual increase is £3.69 or less, and a weekly increase of 7 pence or lower.

Mid Suffolk only receives 10% of the total council tax paid. 76% goes to the County Council, 11% to Suffolk Police and 3% to Parish/Town Councils.
