Countryside events in Mid Suffolk

Mid Suffolk Countryside Team’s new events diary is now available. It is packed with events for all ages, throughout 2010. From Woodland Adventure Days for children, to Conservation Taster Days for adults, with bug bonanzas, storytelling, guided walks, art and crafts, natural instruments, water powered rockets and much more in between! Come along and take part this year.

The diary can be downloaded from the Council's website: www.midsuffolk.gov.uk and copies are available in paper format by calling 01449 724633.

To start the New Year we have some active events to keep you warm in winter…

On Wednesday 27 January, join our regular volunteer group to help develop the pond at The Pennings Local Nature Reserve in Eye (weather permitting – please call the Countryside Ranger on 01449 724640 to confirm attendance and what is happening). Open to adults age 16 plus.

Children can step outside for some half term fun with the “Orienteering Challenge”, using the new orienteering course at Needham Lake. This takes place on Wednesday 17 February between 12 and 3.30pm.  There’s no need to book, just turn up before 2.30pm on the day. It costs £3 per child and children must be accompanied by an adult, at no extra charge.

On Friday 19 February we have the first of our four new “Woodland Adventure Days”.  This is a great opportunity for children aged between 8 and 12 to get out and enjoy and learn more about woodlands, without parents! In February the Rangers will be showing how Rede Wood is looked after and how to coppice trees, as well as having fun building shelters and enjoying a camp fire. Booking and pre payment of £8 per child is essential, please call 01449 724633.

“Have a go at Conservation” on Sunday 28 February is for adults age 16 plus. It’s a beginner’s guide to conservation, particularly for those at work during the week who cannot attend our regular volunteer group, although anyone is welcome. You’ll need to bring a packed lunch, outdoor clothing and stout footwear, but all tools, instruction, tea and biscuits will be provided. This is a free event but please phone to book your place on 01449 724633.

Events then continue through to November 2010. For further information about any events, please call 01449 724633.
