Over the next ten days, around 1100 children from Mid Suffolk
will be taught safety techniques that could save their lives.
In the course of the eight scenarios, which cover a range of
potentially life-threatening situations, they will gather
information and skills that could help their whole family.
Crucial Crew is a national scheme aimed at year six pupils (10/11
year olds) organised by Mid Suffolk District Council. This year it
runs from 14-24 June at the Museum of East Anglian Life in
Stowmarket. The half-day sessions cover accident prevention,
road safety, fire safety, Anti-Social behaviour and possible
substance identification
The children will be taking part in various scenarios, ranging from
mock fire scenes, the effect on their community of
anti-social behaviour, first aid as well as “How to make a
999 telephone call”.
Organisations taking part are the Fire Service, Suffolk
Constabulary, Western Area Substance Misuse Adviser, Rotary Club,
EDF Energy St John Ambulance, Mid Suffolk District Council and
Suffolk County Council.
At the end of each half-day session each child will be given a
safety pack full of useful literature together with various
accessories to remind them of their day and to reinforce all they
have learnt at Crucial Crew 2010.
