The Building Regulations are legal
requirements relating to domestic, commercial and industrial
buildings and set down standards to safeguard the health and safety
of persons in and around buildings, to conserve fuel and power and
to provide facilities for disabled people.
The government department responsible for
maintaining the building regulations is the
Department for Communities
and Local Government. On these pages you will find lots of
information relating to the building regulations as well as the
Approved Documents that set out the minimum standards that must be
achieved.
It is important if you intend to carry out building work that
you speak to Mid Suffolk Building Control at an early stage to
establish whether your proposals are subject to Building Regulation
control for which you will need to make an application.
The following illustration gives some guidance as to the type of
work which is subject to Building Regulations control. You can also
go to the
Building Regulations
frequently asked questions page. The guidance is not
exhaustive and if you are in any doubt please contact the
Building Control Team.
