Development Control Policies

Development Control Policies DPD

This document will set out the proposed approach for detailed policies for controlling development and delivering the vision, objectives and core policies of the Core Strategy. Its policies will play a key role in determining planning applications in the future. Please see the Local Development Scheme for the schedule of stages.

Issues and Options

An evidence gathering topic paper for the Development Control Policies DPD was available for consultation from 6th August 2007 until 17th September 2007. This document forms part of the Local Development Framework and sets out the key development control policies that will be used in day-to-day decision making on planning applications. This consultation was followed by a series of public exhibitions throughout the
District held during September and October 2007.

Update on the next consultation stage

The Preferred Options stage did not commence in November as originally expected.   the . This is due to the loss of two Officers to neighbouring Suffolk Local Planning Authorities and the magnitude of work the Core Strategy has produced alongside organising a series of "Community Workshops" for consultation purposes.  Disruption has meant that the development control policies has been delayed from moving to the next stage.

A revised LDS timetable is available to view, but this will not be submitted and subsequently adopted until after the  new plan-making regulations which are anticipated to be released Spring/Summer 2008 by the Government.  A revised LDS will reflect the Council's continuing commitments to the Stowmarket Area Action Plan and Site Specific Allocations DPDs which are of high priority to our stakeholders.  We believe that this will minimise criticism of our LDF processes. The Development Control Policies will be covered by existing saved policies and national guidance/circulars in the interim without detriment to our planning control function.
