Sustainability Appraisals

Development is central to the reformed planning system. The purpose of Sustainability Appraisal (SA), mandatory under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, is to promote sustainable development through the integration of social, environmental and economic considerations into the preparation of Development Plan Documents (DPD).

A Sustainability Appraisal is a process that is designed to analyse and review how a policy document or strategy affects economic, social and environmental objectives. These documents contain the key findings and recommendations from the Sustainability appraisals undertaken with respect to the Core Strategy Final Issues and Options Report.

The purpose of these appraisals is to assess whether the Options raised in the Core Strategy Final Issues and Options Report have incorporated the principles of sustainable development and to identify the options which incorporate, promote and support sustainable development.

The documents below include both the Summary and Detailed Sheets from the Sustainability Appraisals for Options from the themes stated in the Final Issues and Options Report.
