Suffolk Hedgerow Survey
Suffolk Hedgerow Survey

The Countryside Team supports many Parish Councils and individuals throughout the District who are involved in surveying their parish hedgerows as part of the Suffolk Hedgerow Survey.

This ambitious undertaking is hoping to record details about every hedgerow in Suffolk making it the most comprehensive survey of its kind in the Country.

Already half of the parishes in Mid Suffolk are involved but if you live in one of those not yet taking part and want more information please contact the Countryside Team on 01449 724639.

The Survey is due to end in 2010 so with only one more recording season to go anyone who would be willing to assist would be most welcome. You will need some skills in identifying hedgerow shrubs - though training can be given where needed - but apart from that all you need is to be able and willing to walk around the parish. What you will gain from the survey is a real insight into the richness of the area you live in, exercise and fresh air. With two or three teams working together you should not need to spend more than a few weekend days completing your patch - and of course you could survey a few hedges as part of a regular evening summer walk.
