Environmental Education

What's on offer for schools and groups?

Our 'Environmental Education Activities' leaflet provides a flavour of the activities that we offer - but please contact us to discuss topics not mentioned as we may be able to help. For information about the activities we do provide, prices and a booking form, download a copy or contact us to request a paper copy.

Most of our educational visits are currently run at Needham Lake in Needham Market. It’s our biggest countryside site, which includes the lake, meadows, River Gipping and associated riverbank and an area of woodland. We have areas for play, a hard surfaced path around the lake and can demonstrate techniques for site management, such as conservation grazing. There is also a recently planted living willow circle in Mill Meadow.

The activities available include:

  • pond dipping
  • mini beast hunting
  • earth walks (activities and exploration using different senses)
  • art and crafts
  • orienteering
  • depending on site requirements, we are sometimes able to offer practical conservation activities

We can also run activities at our other countryside sites, in your school grounds or a green space near you. Most activities can be run throughout the year; it is predominantly the pond dipping and mini beast activities that are limited by the time of year and weather.

Outreach work is an important aspect of the Project, helping Mid Suffolk schools to make use of their local natural and built environment and encouraging children to respect and look after their locality.

Why not use a visit to inspire children and kick-start a new project in your school grounds, or explore the different habitats and species we have in Mid Suffolk?

Please contact us for further information or to book a visit.

COMING SOON - New resources for Early Years groups. Based around the 'WOW Gang' (Owl, Otter, Ladbird, Frog and Hedgehog), a series of stories, songs and fun activities linked to each animal will help children explore their surroundings. Please call us for details and watch out for the new web pages.
