What happens to the collected waste?
The waste is collected via the brown bin and is sent to a local composting facility (County Mulch in Creeting St Mary) to be shredded and turned into soil improver, which is then available to buy at our Household Waste & Recycling Centres.

Fees
The charge for this service is £40 per annum. For this you will receive a fornightly collection of your garden waste and the hire of a 240 litre brown bin for the subscription period. This type of collection service is optional and not included within Council Tax charges, preventing residents not wishing to undertake the service from subsidising the scheme.

How does the scheme work?
Once payment has been received, a 240 litre brown bin will be delivered to your address with details of future collections. The Council will notify you of your first collection day when the bin is delivered.

The collection service operates all year round on a fortnightly basis with a minimum of 24 collections during each subscription period. (There are no collections over the Christmas and New Year period.)

Benefits to you and the environment
This service offers residents an easy and convenient way to recycle their garden waste all year round. The service will also help increase the amount of garden waste that is not currently recycled, diverting much of the current garden waste from landfill, where it produces large amounts of methane gas, a contributing factor in global warming.
