How do I apply for housing?
Anyone can apply for housing, including people who are already in a Council property who wish to move. There is no paper application form. There are two ways to apply:
- You can register using an online form by logging on to the Gateway to Homechoice website (opens new window)
- By completing the form over the phone with a member of staff by calling 01449 724762

How do I end my tenancy?
We require 4 weeks written notice to end your tenancy which should be sent to: Housing, Mid Suffolk District Council, 131 High Street, Needham Market, Suffolk, IP6 8DL or alternatively you can give notice to end your Council tenancy online (opens new window). This means you are responsible for paying your rent for this notice period even if you move out of your home earlier.

How do I make changes to my housing application?
You can make amendments to your application details for example if you move or you are renewing your application. These changes can be made via the Gateway to Homechoice website (opens new window) by using the ‘Login/My Account’ tab.

All requests to change your tenancy should be sent in writing to Tenant Services, Mid Suffolk District Council, 131 High Street, Needham Market, Suffolk, IP6 8DL or by email: Shelley.Heath@midsuffolk.gov.uk. We may wish to make an appointment for you to visit the Council offices to discuss your situation.
Once we have processed your application for changes to your tenancy we will let you know the outcome in writing.

All reports of nuisance, harassment, racial harassment, and anti-social behaviour will be taken seriously.

Gateway to Homechoice is an online choice based lettings scheme. There is one housing register so you need only apply once to be able to apply for properties.
On the Gateway to Homechoice website 'using the application form' page; select ‘if you don’t have a login, click here to register’ link and start to complete the application form. There are a number of pages to complete.
All applicants who have started the registration process will be given a unique login reference number. After you have registered, we will write to you informing you of your new banding, your login number (PIN), when you can start bidding and a booklet explaining the bands and how to express an interest in a property. I want to swap my house with another tenant. What should I do?
If you want to swap your home with another tenant you need to register with Houseexchange (opens new window) to look for a mutual exchange by visiting their website. Houseexchange has people registered across the country looking for exchanges and also specialises in three way swaps - helping you find the home you are looking for.
When you have found someone you would like to swap homes with you must contact the Council by calling 01449 724755 or email Shelley.Heath@midsuffolk.gov.uk for an application form to put your request in writing. We will confirm within 42 days if the exchange can proceed.
Please note that you must also get written permission from us or your Housing Association landlord before swapping with another tenant.
