Renovation Grant and Loan

Renovation grants and loans are available to owner occupiers and tenants with a repairing responsibility to:

  • carry out improvement or repair to a property to meet the Decent Homes Standard,
  • put existing dwellings into reasonable repair or remove category one hazards, as identified under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS), introduced by the Housing Act (2004).

These may include:

  • damp proofing
  • provision of sanitary facilities 
  • provision of an adequate water supply 
  • re-roofing 
  • repairs/replacement of windows and doors 
  • repairs to structure

The maximum amount available is £20,000 which is made up of a grant of up to £5,000 and an interest free loan of up to £15,000. Owners of park homes will only be eligible for up to £5,000 grant.

The £5,000 grant is not repayable. The loan element is repayable upon sale or transfer of the property. Local land charges will be applied.

These grants are subject to a financial assessment to determine the applicant's ability to contribute towards the cost of the works.

The property requiring the renovation grant and loan must be in Council tax band A - E. There will be no more than £5,000 grant in a three year period.
