Garage Rental Terms and Conditions

Conditions of tenancy for council garages

  1. The rent must be paid weekly or monthly by Direct Debit the amount charged being subject to alteration by the Council. The tenancy may be terminated by 2 weeks’ notice given by either party. Keys to be handed into the offices at Hadleigh/Needham Market, or sent by Recorded delivery post. The keys are the property of Babergh/Mid Suffolk District Council and if you are responsible for their loss, a lock change will be necessary, for which you may be charged – this could be in the region of £50.00.
  2. The premises are intended to garage your motor vehicle, but must not be used for storage of combustible materials. The Council accepts no responsibility for damage to your vehicle whilst it is in or near the garage.
  3. You must not:
    • Assign or sublet the garage without previous consent in writing from the Council.
    • Make any alterations to the premises without the consent of the Council.
    • Use the garage so as to cause a nuisance or annoyance to others.
    • Conduct a business from the garage.
    • Please ensure doors are kept closed when not in use for safety and security. Also damage may occur if left open.
  4. Representatives of the Council have a right of access to the garage at all reasonable times, in order to carry out maintenance and repairs.
  5. If the Council finds you responsible for any damage or neglect to the garage, you may be required to pay for whatever special cleaning or repair work is necessary.
  6. In using the garage you must follow normal safety requirements to protect yourself and others. The Council accepts no liability for your actions in the use of the garage.
  7. At the end of the tenancy the Tenant must leave the garage empty and in a clean condition. If items are found in the garage following termination of tenancy, the items will be removed and terminating tenant will be charged with the cost of clearance.
