An Invitation to Join us on Suffolk Day

Posted by on 15 June 2017 | Comments

To celebrate the very first Suffolk Day, Babergh and Mid Suffolk invite you to join them at Thornham Walks and Alton Water to explore our beautiful countryside.

The two free events, held on Suffolk Day itself, Wednesday 21 June 2017, will offer guided walks around some iconic Suffolk countryside, offering a chance for participants to relax and enjoy the green spaces and fresh air of the county.

Alison Monk, an experienced Walk Leader who took part in Suffolk’s Year of Walking, will be leading both walks, offering guidance and assistance to all those attending.

The first walk, beginning at 10.15am, will be at Thornham Walks in Mid Suffolk. The walk will pass through a variety of Suffolk habitats, including woodland, parkland and farmland. Free parking will be available for anyone wishing to attend, who will gather in Thornham Walks’ Overflow Car Park at IP23 8HH. The walk is estimated to last one and a half hours and cover between three and three and a half miles.

Then at 2.15pm the second walk will begin at Alton Water Park in Babergh. The walk will leave the Anglian Water Car Park at IP9 2RY and head towards Tattingstone, passing the Tattingstone Wonder with views of the reservoir before turning inland. Parking in the Anglian Water Car Park will be free for participants, with the walk lasting approximately one and a half hours and covering between three and three and a half miles.

Families and dogs are entirely welcome on both walks, although dogs must be kept on leads. Free Goody Bags and Pedometers are available for participants while stocks last.

Cllr Jennie Jenkins, Leader of Babergh District Council and who will be greeting participants at Alton Water, said: “I’ll be joining people across the county to celebrate Suffolk Day. I’m proud to say everyone in Babergh is getting into the spirit, from Lavenham to the Suffolk Food Hall, and anyone wanting to celebrate our countryside is invited to join us at Alton Water for a chance to stretch their legs and tour a part of Babergh’s stunning landscape.”

Cllr Nick Gowrley Leader of Mid Suffolk District Council and who will be joining the event at Thornham Walks, said: “Suffolk Day is a celebration of our county, and I am looking forward to a day packed with the very best our area has to offer. Thornham Walks has always been a beautiful and restful part of Mid Suffolk and I hope the opportunity to explore it on Suffolk Day will bring the experience to a whole new audience.”
