Food Enterprise Zones

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils have each been awarded a grant to set up two new Food Enterprise Zones – one in Wherstead called the Orwell Food Enterprise Zone and the other at the Mill Lane Business Park in Stowmarket called the Stowmarket Enterprise Park.

The Councils are producing  Local Development Orders (LDO) which will enable some types of development to be quickly built without the need to apply for planning permission. This will give Food & Drink related businesses such as food production, packing, logistics and marketing the opportunity to expand and grow at a faster rate.

The first LDO for Jimmy's Farm in the Orwell Food Enterprise Zone is now in place.

A public consultation on a draft LDO for an area known as the Stevin Site in Wherstead was undertaken in May and June 2017

A public consultation on the Stowmarket Food Enterprise Zone LDO was undertaken in July and August 2016 and the council is currently considering the responses

Grants between £60,000 to £1 million are available to help food processing businesses who are in or associated with the Suffolk Food Enterprise Zones.  This grant can be used to construct new premises or purchase new machinery.
