The canopies and installations and mostly now complete and panels able to generate electricity. However there remain global supply chain delays on some energy technology components for finalising fully the installation and functionality. These are high quality components specific to the system so can’t be substituted. The operational date for electric vehicle charging ‘switch on’ may experience a short delay as a consequence of this. Further carpark spaces will be returned to safe public use as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience whilst we work hard to finalise this project delivery.
Construction of the solar carport and related infrastructure is now underway and installation of the steel structure started in mid-February. It is likely that the completion date will move from the end of March, into April. This is due to some unavoidable COVID-19 related supply chain delays.
Once completed, the carport solar arrays will power up to eight new electric vehicle charging points (including two fast charge 22kW points). It will also generate up to 23.7% of the leisure centre’s annual electricity demand.
Full construction of the solar carports started on Thursday 13 January 2022. Please note that the aim is not to displace more than 25 parking bays per section installation. Signage will be displayed to advise car park users.
Screw pile anchor site investigations by the subcontractor have now been completed. The final designs are being concluded.
Periodic preliminary works will be underway during December. Full construction will start in January 2022.
Work will commence on site to install 70 solar carports in the carpark at the Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre/Gainsborough Road site.
This will generate electricity on site, linking up to battery storage, to provide some of the energy needs of the leisure centre. Additional electric vehicle charging points will also be installed.
Polysolar, the contractor, will work to minimise the loss of parking spaces during construction. However, some temporary disruption is unavoidable whilst these improvement works take place.
During these ongoing works, we’re working hard to minimise any unnecessary disruption in Stowmarket. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we deliver our long-term vision for the town.
