Licence summary

If you operate food premises you may need to be approved by your local authority.

Examples of types of premises that are required to be approved by local authorities are stand alone, i.e. not attached to a slaughter house, cutting plant or game handling establishments.

You should contact your local authority to see if you require approval if the product of animal origin is any of:

  • minced meat
  • meat preparation
  • mechanically separated meat
  • meat products
  • live bivalve molluscs (shellfish)
  • fishery products
  • dairy products
  • eggs (not Primary production)/egg products
  • frogs' legs/snails
  • rendered animal fats and greaves
  • treated stomachs, bladders and intestines
  • gelatine
  • collagen

No. It is in the public interest that the authority must process your application before it can be granted. If you have not heard from the local authority within a period of 35 calendar days, please contact us.
