The redevelopment of Belle Vue House and the redundant swimming pool site in Sudbury and improvements for neighbouring Belle Vue Park are high on the agenda for Babergh District Council.
As part of our plan for Delivering a Vision of Prosperity for Sudbury, we have said that we want to:
We are currently inviting formal expressions of interest from any individuals or groups with a financially viable proposal for the future use of Belle Vue House.
We have produced an information pack and guidance to give interested parties information in order to submit their proposals by Friday 1 November 2019:
Disclaimer: All information is provided in order to help expressions of interest, but should not replace your own investigations.
Viewings of Belle Vue House, which is located on Newton Road, Sudbury, are available (by appointment only) on Monday 16 September and Thursday 26 September.
Information on how to book an appointment is included in the pack, together with photos, plans and details to help develop an expression of interest.
At the same time as inviting expressions of interest from the community, we have also instructed estate agents Strutt & Parker to see whether there is commercial interest in the property.
All proposals will then be considered, shortlisted, and shared as part of a public consultation later this year. A shortlist of financially viable proposals will be consulted on to determine the best future use for the building.
If you have any difficulties accessing the information online or have an additional query, please email our Belle Vue Team.
We aim to be in a position to submit a planning application for the proposed hotel and restaurant by the end of the year, with a full public consultation as part of the planning process. This means that everyone will be able to see plans in detail, have their say, and understand exactly what the proposed development would mean for the area.
We are committed to maintaining Belle Vue Park as a green, open space with fit-for-purpose facilities for the whole community.
We have invested £150,000 in the multi-use games area, completed in November 2018, and the new skate/BMX park which opened in June 2019.
The old skate park area can now be redesigned, retaining a multi-purpose hard surface space that can be used for major town and community events such as the Carnival and Party in the Park.
As part of the wider redevelopment of Belle Vue we are now looking to use the opportunity to provide new equipment and amenities to further enhance the park.
We will continue to listen to the community about what facilities are required, now and in the future. We know, for example, that the old toilet block needs replacing and feedback from park users tells us it is not currently in the best location – especially for families with young children. So we want to use this opportunity to provide a modern facility in a more suitable location.
We also want to review play provision – ensuring it's inclusive for all – and update the current trim trail and fitness equipment. We welcome feedback on the park as part of the wider public consultation on the future of Belle Vue House and the proposed hotel and restaurant later this year.
