Conservation Volunteers

Conservation Volunteers

The Countryside Team organises a fortnightly volunteer task on alternate Wednesdays. Volunteers assist the Rangers with a variety of activities - from tree planting and felling through to footpath surveys and furniture installation. Volunteers need no previous experience and there are a variety of tasks to get involved with each session, so that volunteers can work at their own pace and within their limits.  We provide all the tools you need, support you, supply tea and biscuits and a friendly working environment. Tasks usually start at 10am and end no later than 3.30pm. Volunteers sometimes choose to only stay for half a day or arrive after lunch.

The majority of work is carried out on Local Nature Reserves such as Needham Lake.  Recently, volunteers have been helping to clear the islands at the lake - thinning trees and clearing some of the dense undergrowth.  This has made a real difference to the site and without the support of our volunteers this work would have taken much longer.

If you can spare some time to volunteer you will be making a real contribution that benefits both wildlife and visitors to the sites. The practical work is great exercise and being outdoors in a natural setting is good for personal wellbeing.
