Cleansing service

An effective street cleansing service is important for providing the environment that we would all like to live in.

Street cleansing includes a routine, as well as reactive cleaning of adopted roads and footpaths throughout the districts.

Generally, town centres are cleaned everyday and rural areas when needed.

Different areas of the districts have different cleaning routines. However, it is important that our schedules are flexible and we do not clean a street that does not need cleaning.

Councils do not clear leaves from private property or clear leaves from grass areas. The only exception to this rule are Councils parks and sheltered housing sites.

As a Council, we do our best to keep the districts clean. That means that if you report areas (or we find areas) that are a problem, we will deal with them rather than just sticking to a schedule.

Mechanical sweeping of all kerbed and drained roads is carried out 2-3 times per year.

Suffolk County Council is responsible for any emergency clearing of materials, including mud, that might be a hazard on the highway.
