Mid Suffolk District Council Chairman, Cllr Derrick Haley, has donated £1,428.29 raised over the last year of his Chairmanship to Suffolk Mind.
Suffolk Mind work to make Suffolk the best place in the world for talking about and taking care of mental health, offering support and information to everyone. They work with individuals and organisations to educate people of all ages and backgrounds about mental health.
Following Cllr Haley’s re-election as Chairman of Mid Suffolk last May he selected Suffolk Mind as the Chairman’s Charity for the year and has been fundraising for them over the past 10 months.
Cllr Derrick Haley, Chairman of Mid Suffolk District Council, said: “Our society is becoming more open about mental health, but there is still much work to do. Suffolk Mind are at the forefront of this, and it’s wonderful to be able to support them. Thank you to everyone who has helped raise these funds, and thank you to the men and women at Suffolk Mind who are leading by example.”
Jon Neal, Chief Executive of Suffolk Mind, said: “We are very grateful to Cllr Haley for choosing us as his charity of the year. Thanks to the efforts or Cllr Haley, and many like him, we are able to provide free training for people across Suffolk, subsidised counselling for those who can’t afford to sit on a waiting list or go private, and peer support groups on allotments in places like Hadleigh, for example, where many people are supporting each other with their own mental wellbeing.”
