Some of the first council houses to be built in Babergh for more than 30 years are being advertised online to potential new residents, who must have a link to the local area.
The 15 properties at Hammond Croft, Glemsford, CO10 7FJ, are being listed on the Gateway to Homechoice website, where residents registered with Babergh District Council’s choice based letting scheme can bid to be housed in the new homes. All prospective residents must be able to demonstrate a link to the local area.
The nine two-bedroom and six three-bedroom behind Schoolfield in Glemsford are part of the first new-build council homes development in the district since 1985. Planning permission was granted by Babergh’s Planning Committee in April 2015, with construction subsequently carried out by Foster Property Maintenance.
There is expected to be high demand for the new homes, which will be advertised online until Wednesday 10 January 2018.
Babergh District Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Jan Osborne, said: “These new homes are the first council houses to be built in Babergh for more than 30 years and we are looking forward to handing the keys over to the first residents. This development represents a secure future for local families and a clear commitment from the council to provide accommodation for those in need in our district.”
