Additional waste

If your bin is full, or an item is too big to fit in, you may want to consider the following options.

Additional refuse and garden waste

Any refuse (general rubbish) or garden waste left by the bin in unauthorised sacks, such as black bags, will not be collected.

Extra household refuse and garden waste can be taken to a recycling centre in Suffolk.

In Mid Suffolk, we offer an authorised council sack scheme for extra household refuse and garden waste. Sacks are available to buy from our stockists.

Visit our authorised council sacks webpage

Additional recycling

Extra household recycling that can't fit into the recycling bin can be put in any clear, see-through sack.

Clear sacks can also be purchased from our authorised council sack stockists.

Place the clear sacks by the recycling bin on your recycling collection day.

Sacks must be able to be easily lifted and tied at the top, to prevent being overfilled.

Cardboard

Any cardboard that can’t fit into the recycling bin needs to be flattened, with any packaging materials and polystyrene removed.

Place the flattened cardboard by the recycling bin on your recycling collection day.

We are unable to collect soaked cardboard and would advise not to leave out any cardboard if it is due to rain.

Plastic packaging materials and polystyrene should be put in your refuse (general rubbish) bin.

Recycling centres

Household and garden waste, plus larger and electrical items, can be taken to a Suffolk Recycling Centre (rubbish tip).

Please visit the Suffolk County Council website to view further information, including site locations and the function to book a time slot.

There are also community-run recycling centres within the districts:
