Disability Reduction

If you qualify for the Disability Reduction, you will be charged Council Tax in the Valuation Band below the one that your home is actually in.

This means that if your property is in Band C, then with the Disability Reduction you will be charged Council Tax at Band B. For Band A properties your Council Tax will be reduced by one sixth.

Qualifying for Disability Reduction

To qualify for the Disability Reduction, you must meet the following two conditions:

  1. Someone who is permanently disabled must live in the home. This can be an adult or child.
  2. There must be:
  • A wheelchair being used indoors; or
  • An extra bathroom or kitchen specially for that person; or
  • A room which is used to help meet the needs of the person with a disability, such as a room put aside for dialysis

How to apply

If you meet the above conditions, please complete an application form.
