Valuation bands

The majority of dwellings are subject to Council Tax. There is one bill per dwelling, whether it is a house, bungalow, flat, maisonette, mobile home or houseboat.

You have to pay Council Tax whether you own or rent the dwelling.

Your property is in one of eight valuation bands according to its market value as of 1 April 1991. The valuation was decided by the Valuation Office Agency and the band for your property is shown on your bill. The amount of Council Tax you pay depends on which valuation band your property is in.
