Needham Lake has been officially recognised as one of the country’s best green spaces, winning a prestigious Green Flag Award.

The site, owned by Mid Suffolk District Council, is one of 2,250 in the UK to achieve the award, which is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

Cllr Tim Weller, Mid Suffolk District Council cabinet member for environment, culture and wellbeing, said: “This award is testament to the hard work and dedication of our public realm team and rangers in providing and maintaining this beautiful open space for visitors to enjoy.

“I’ve always been proud of our accessible free spaces for recreation, social interaction and well-being which at the same time support nature and wildlife. It’s great that a Green Flag for Needham Lake also acknowledges the impact of our work for biodiversity and tackling climate change.

Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said: “Congratulations to everyone involved in Needham Lake who have worked so hard to ensure that it achieves the high standards required for the Green Flag Award.

“Quality parks and green spaces like Needham Lake make the country a heathier place to live and work in, and a stronger place in which to invest.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
