New Mid Suffolk Chair selects Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue as charity

04/06/26
Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue has been named as charity of the year for Mid Suffolk District Council.

Cllr Lorraine Baker, Green member for the Chilton ward, was elected as Chair of Mid Suffolk District Council following their annual meeting.

Throughout her term in office, Cllr Baker will organise a number of fundraising activities to raise money for the charity who specialise in finding missing people using foot and dog-teams.

They cover large areas of wilderness and have teams available on foot, with dogs, in water and using drones to locate vulnerable missing persons.

Cllr Lorraine Baker, Chair of Mid Suffolk District Council, said:

“The work that Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue carry out is invaluable and often goes unnoticed.

They operate on a completely voluntary basis and rely on donations and grants and so not only do I want to raise money for them, but I want to spread awareness of the work that they do under some incredibly challenging circumstances.”

Elaine Glendinning, Chair and Search Manager for Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue, said:

“Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue support Suffolk Constabulary in the search for missing, vulnerable people in and around Suffolk.

We rely solely on grants and donations to cover our increasing running costs and to purchase and maintain resources and equipment for the team.

Our control van needs to be replaced as a matter of urgency; we are looking to raise enough funds to do this over the course of the year and we are delighted and very grateful to be chosen as Cllr Baker’s Charity of the Year.”

Cllr Keith Scarff, Liberal Democrat member for Combs Ford, will undertake the role of Vice Chair.
