Private hire operator's licences

If you accept bookings on behalf of private hire vehicles, you will need a private hire operator's licence. This licence lasts for five years.

If you are also a licensed driver, all relevant checks will have already been performed.

Non-licensed drivers, when applying, will need to provide:

In addition to these checks, all applicants will need to provide:

  • details of all telephone numbers intended for the use of bookings, and the address to which each number relates. Phone bills are accepted proof of this
  • your company policies:
    • Carriage of passengers accompanied by guide or hearing dogs policy
    • Carriage of passengers with disabilities policy
    • Safeguarding of children and vulnerable persons policy
  • Public liability insurance certificate for any offices which the public have access to
  • a certificate from OFCOM (where applicable)
  • a copy of the company registration certificate (where applicable)
