Scheduled work at leisure centre will mean temporary pool closure

Scheduled maintenance work will take place at Stradbroke Leisure Centre this summer, resulting in a temporary three-week pool closure.

Maintenance and repairs to the roof and within the pool hall are expected to result in the closure of the pool between July 21 and August 11, although exact dates will be confirmed nearer the time.

The rest of the leisure centre will remain fully operational during the work.

Mid Suffolk District Council has worked closely with centre operator, Everyone Active, to agree timings of the work and ensure regular swimming groups and members are aware of the pool closure.

Cllr Tim Weller, Mid Suffolk’s cabinet member for environment, culture and wellbeing, said: “This work is essential to ensure the leisure centre’s roof remains in a good condition for many more years to come.

“We know it will be frustrating for swimmers and apologise for any inconvenience caused. We want to give advance notice so alternative plans can be made.”

The work is part of a £1.2m maintenance programme this summer which will also see work taking place at Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre in Stowmarket.

However, unlike Stradbroke, Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre will remain fully operational while this is being carried out.

Cllr Weller explained: “We will be working on the roof across the site, improving external lighting and carrying out some changing room repairs. We always put the health and safety of staff and customers first, but we are pleased to say no closures will be necessary at Mid Suffolk.”

Everyone Active will be keeping centre users updated about the work.

Customers will see initial work getting under way at both Stradbroke and Mid Suffolk leisure centres from 15 June.
