When complete, it will be used to help guide and shape future development in the plan's area.

Reg 17 Examination (Final Report 8 Aug 2025)
Mid Suffolk District Council appointed Ann Skippers BSc (Hons) MRTPI FRSA AoU to carry out an independent examination of the Badwell Ash & Long Thurlow NDP. The examination relied on the submitted documents and written representations.
On Friday 8 August 2025, the Examiner issued her final report. It recommends that, subject to certain modifications, this NDP meets the basic condition tests and that it should proceed to a local referendum.

Reg 16 Submission consultation (ended 25 Apr 2025)
The Badwell Ash & Long Thurlow NDP was submitted in February 2025 and was made available for public consultation between 10 March and 25 April 2025.
The Parish Council (the qualifying body) had submitted the following documents:
- A Map identifying the NDP Area
- The submission draft Badwell Ash & Long Thurlow NDP 2024 - 2038 [Note: A large, 24Mb file]
- A Consultation Statement
- A Basic Conditions Statement
- A Design Guidance & Codes document (AECOM, Feb 2025)
- A Housing Needs Assessment Report (AECOM, Jul 2024)
- A Landscape & Biodiversity Evaluation Report (SWT, July 2024)
- A Data Profile (Dec 2023)
- A copy of our SEA & HRA Determination Notice (see further below)
An assessment on how this NDP met the basic condition tests formed part of the examination. Our initial checks suggested that the relevant procedural requirements had been met at this stage. See our Regulation 15 Checklist.
Respondents were also reminded that their comments would be forwarded to the independent examiner and, with the exception of personal contact details, be published on this webpage. The Parish Council were also given the opportunity to respond to new issues raised at this stage.
SEA/HRA Screening and Determination (Dec 2024)
The pre-submission draft Badwell Ash & Long Thurlow NDP has been screened to determine whether a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and or a Habitats Assessment (HRA) were required. Both were 'screened-out'. The relevant reports and our determination notice are published below:
