New electric bikes arrive at Needham Lake

Two new electric bikes can now be hired from Needham Lake, helping to encourage sustainable travel

Two new rental electric bikes have been installed at Needham Lake.

They give residents and visitors a chance to explore and try out different sustainable transport options available.

The project is a collaboration between Mid Suffolk District Council, and local Suffolk-based bike rental company, Eezybike.

The council has funded the pod, which houses and charges the bikes, and significantly subsidised the cost of hire - giving people the chance to try an electric bike before making any financial commitment.

Located next to the Duck and Teapot café at the lake, the bikes are easily accessible via the footpaths.

Bookings can be made via the Eezybike website by selecting 'Needham Lake pod' as the pick up location.

Cllr Tim Weller, cabinet member for environment, culture and wellbeing, said:

"The new Eezy bikes we've just installed at Needham Lake are fantastic fun.

"Whether you're a local to Needham or a visitor, a good cyclist or less good cyclist like me, its a great opportunity to give e-bikes a go.

"They can be quite a considerable investment to buy up front. So, it's much cheaper to hire it by the half day or the day, and see exactly how much fun it is and whether it's something you can get into.

"It's also a great way of getting yourself some exercise!"

Si Cooper, Eezybike co-founder, said:

"This is our first Eezy pod, which charges our electric bikes for the public to use.

"We're in collaboration with Mid Suffolk Council, which is fantastic because it allows us to reduce the cost to the public.

"So come along down to Needham Lake and have a go!"

Cycle routes to and from Needham Market can be found on the Komoot platform (see the Eezybikers profile or discover map) or via the Cycling UK website.
