New sports facilities hosting community fun day

15/10/26
Brand new sports facilities in Stowmarket will host a community fun day during October half term allowing members of the public to take part in a range of free, sports activities.

The community fun day, being run by Mid Suffolk District Council and award-winning operator Everyone Active, will take place at the recently completed 3G pitch and running track in the grounds of Stowmarket High School.

Taking place on Tuesday 27 October from 11am-4pm, the day will have a number of sessions run by local sports groups, giving members of the community the chance to take part in different activities and try out the facilities.

Local sports groups Stowmarket Town Football Club, Stowupland Falcons Football Club and Stowmarket Striders will be running sessions throughout the day.

Visitors will have the opportunity to try out the new facilities by taking part in football activities on the 3G pitch with coaches and volunteers from both football clubs, including skills drills, coaching sessions, small-sided games and penalty shoot-outs.

Stowmarket Striders will also be offering running activities on the new 200-metre track, giving participants the chance to take part in running drills, fitness challenges and introductory field athletics activities suitable for a range of ages and abilities.

All activities will be open sessions, allowing people to join in at any point throughout the day.

Councillor Tim Weller, Cabinet Member for Environment, Culture and Wellbeing at Mid Suffolk District Council, said: “We’re really pleased with new sports facilities in Stowmarket and this community fun day is a great way for local residents to come along, see the facilities for themselves and try them out.

“There are a number of activities taking place throughout the day so it really is the perfect opportunity to try something new, meet new people and get active all at the same time.”

There is no need to book a space on the session, simply turn up and join in.

Paul Robson, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “We are proud to be operating these new facilities in partnership with Mid Suffolk District Council and are confident they will play a valuable role in health and wellbeing locally for many years to come.

“We would encourage everyone to come down and try out the fantastic new facilities on their doorstep. Whether it’s at Stowmarket High School or Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre, we have an activity for everyone, no matter what your age, interests or ability.”

An additional session is being run from 9am-11am for those eligible for the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme. Spaces for football session can be booked via the Eequ booking platform and the multi-sports session can also be booked via the Eequ system.
